Patient of the Month Posts.png

Each month, Iron Physical Therapy highlights a special patient to tell their inspiring story. We want to honor people who go all in - body, mind and spirit. They show us what’s possible - that you can move on from a setback to do amazing things...to challenge your body, to chase your dreams, to address future pain in a healthy way, to #getbetterbebetter. Brielle is Iron Physical Therapy’s December Patient of the Month from our Caldwell, NJ clinic! Brielle is a 6th grade soccer player in Caldwell who broke her leg during a game back in the spring. She stayed strong from the time they first called the ambulance, through surgery and then a difficult rehab. Incredibly she was able to fully return to her soccer team at the end of the fall season.

This one was particularly special for Dr. Mayes who’s been one of Brielle’s soccer coaches for almost 5 years. He was actually the one to carry her off the field after her sidelining injury and couldn’t be more proud to see her back with her team.

What brought you into physical therapy?

I broke my tibia and fibula playing during a soccer game.

What is your favorite part about playing soccer?

My favorite thing about playing soccer is being part of a team and working together. I also just love the game of soccer and the thrill of scoring and winning a game.

How would you describe physical therapy to your teammates who don't know what it is?

Physical Therapy is a lot of hard work and dedication, but if you keep working at what will make you better, it will play off in the end.

What was your favorite part of physical therapy?

My favorite parts of physical therapy were the beginning and of course the end. In the beginning, little things like standing and walking seemed impossible, but the reward of seeing myself slowly improve was motivating.

I also enjoyed working with all the therapists at Iron…they made all the hard work fun while I was there!

What lessons did you learn from physical therapy that you think you can bring to the soccer field?

Do not be afraid! Work hard and never give up!
