You’re Exercising All Wrong…

By Meri Mayes, Co-Founder @IronPT

I was really frustrated by a recent interview I heard 😬

Popular podcaster, Mel Robbins was talking to an exercise physiologist and the first sentence of the episode was, 'It's your friend Mel, and I just found out I've been exercising all wrong.

Since I've been passionate about movement for 30+ years, I loved how the expert was digging into gender differences in physical activity...

but I winced when Mel shared she was doing Pilates 5x/week, and the guest reacted as if she sits on the couch all day because she doesn't do the exact 5-part exercise routine she prescribes.

Sometimes too much information, especially constantly changing do's and don'ts can literally keep us from moving forward...

  • Walk, but only if you wear a vest

  • Run, but only do sprint intervals

  • Cardio, but only in Zone 2

  • Yoga/Pilates, but only if you strength train too

  • Strength train, but only lift heavy

Don't let all those 'rules' discourage you from simply exercising which is, "the single most potent medical intervention ever known⭐," says Dr. Euan Ashley.

If you're consistently moving in a way YOU enjoy that fits YOUR lifestyle, you're already ahead in aging well. 💪

Moving in many ways that fit your lifestyle

Move in a way YOU enjoy that fits YOUR lifestyle.

And once you’ve got the basics down, it’s great to use new science to optimize your workouts (Dr. Mayes and I sure do), just don’t let it shame folks who enjoy moving differently.

The most important message is that moving and exercising in any way will never disappoint.

Pioneering longevity researcher Dr. Topol says, "Nothing we talk about exceeds exercise for decreasing our body-wide aging process💥💥

  • Lowers our biological age (vs chronological age)

  • Decreases inflammation and risk for many diseases/cancers

  • Improves mental health better than SSRI medication (study showed any movement does this like dancing, walking, yoga, rowing, etc.)

  • And so much more!

PS - If pain, limitations or fear of injury are keeping you from life-changing exercise, today is a great day to change that.
