NYC Marathon Training: Day 37

NYC Marathon Training: Day 37 Ahhh, a  full day of rest….I've mentioned in a previous entry the importance of taking 1-2 days off as you ramp up your mileage.

Why? Well, stress comes in many forms. We all have our daily work, family and personal stressors in addition to the increasing mileage you're demanding of your body.

If you lack proper sleep, nutrition and rest from activity, you may be compromising your immune system as well as increasing the likelihood of injury.

So, if you're feeling extra tired today, reduce the amount and intensity of your planned run or skip it for today. This is not an excuse to give up when the training gets tough, but I am encouraging you to LISTEN to your body.

Train smart!

Rest and Recover

While I was anxious to get out for a run or workout session, I knew a day of rest would be best for today.

So, my activities for today consisted of mowing the lawn, washing the car, picking up mom from the airport, hanging out with my girls at a 4-year old birthday party and sweating over the grill for dinner. I just enjoyed being a blessed husband and father today…what a great summer day!!

Be sure to schedule 1-2 days a week off for recovery (no running or strength training)...and enjoy it! That day of rest will not only fuel you for your next training session, but it will go a long way in preventing injury!
